Buffaloes softball falls to No. 13 Reinhardt

Waleska, Ga. (March 16, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team came up short in a pair of games on Saturday to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe No. 13 Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga. The Buffaloes fell 3-1 in the first game of the day, and then was unable to answer a late Reinhardt run as they fell 7-5 in the second game.
 
   The Buffaloes jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game as Jessica Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) scored on a Catherine McGinnis (Knoxville, Tenn.) double. Milligan led until Reinhardt scored three runs in the bottom of the third. In the top of the seventh, Milligan saw Chelsey Weaver (Louisville, Tenn.) and Jessica Wheelock (Gray, Tenn.) reach base. However, the Buffaloes were unable to bring the runs across home plate.
 
   McGinnis led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, while Olvey, Wheelock and Weaver had a hit each. Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss as she allowed three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in a complete game effort.
 
   In the second game, the Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead as Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Weaver scored on a Jessica Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) single to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) took advantage of a Reinhardt miscue in the second inning as she crossed home plate to give Milligan a 3-0 lead. However, Reinhardt scored three runs in the home side of the frame to tie the game.
 
   The Eagles took their first lead of the game in the third inning with a solo home run, but the Buffaloes tied the game in the fourth when Wheelock scored off a Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) double. Reinhardt responded with three runs to a 7-4 lead after four innings of play. Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun to left field, but that was as close as the Buffaloes could get before the end of the game.
 
   Olvey led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-3, while J. Connatser was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In the pitching circle, Makenzie Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.) was handed the loss as she allowed two earned runs on three hits.
 
   Milligan falls to 3-14 overall and 2-4 in AAC action.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, March 23, as they travel to Columbia College for an AAC doubleheader. First pitch in Columbia, S.C., is set for 1 p.m.
