Barbourville, Ky. (March 29, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team powered past Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College to sweep a doubleheader on Friday in Barbourville, Ky. Milligan outlasted the Lady Bulldogs to take a 4-1 victory in the first game, and then cruised to an 11-2 victory in the second game.

  After Union opened the scoring in the first inning with a single run, neither team was able to put a run on a board in the second or third innings. Milligan struck in the top of the fourth as
Mackenzie Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.) used a RBI triple to drive in
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) and
Catherine McGinnis (Knoxville, Tenn.) to take a 2-1 lead. The Buffaloes extended the Milligan lead with an
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

  Lilley led the way at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Biggs was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) picked up the win in the pitching circle as she allowed just three hits with nine strikeouts.

  In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs struck first with a run in the bottom of the second. Milligan responded in the third inning as Biggs hit her second homerun of the day to score two runs. McGinnis capped off the inning with a two-run homerun over the left field fence to give the Buffaloes a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth inning.

Jessica Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.), Biggs and Lilley crossed home plate in the fifth inning to extend the Milligan lead to 7-2, and
Chelsey Weaver (Louisville, Tenn.) and Lilley each added a run in the fifth inning. McGinnis struck again in the top of the sixth inning as she hit a two-run homerun over the center field fence to secure the win.

  McGinnis finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs, while Biggs ended the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs. C. Connatser picked up her second win of the day as she allowed just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.

  With the sweep, Milligan improves to 6-4 in AAC action and 7-14 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Monday, April 1, as they travel to Columbia (S.C.) College. First pitch in the AAC doubleheader is set for 3 p.m., in Columbia, S.C.
