Milligan softball falls to Southern Wesleyan

Central, S.C. (March 9, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team came up short in two nonconference games on Saturday as they fell 2-1 in eight innings and 6-4 to Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
 
   In the day's first game, the Lady Warriors opened the scoring with a run in the third inning. Milligan tied the game in the top of the seventh when Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) crossed home plate. However, Southern Wesleyan picked up in the win in the bottom of the eighth.
 
   Connaster was handed the loss in the pitching circle for Milligan as she allowed two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.), Catherine McGinnis (Knoxville, Tenn.), Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Connatser recorded hits for Milligan.
 
   The Buffaloes took an early lead in the second inning with a Lambdin run. The Lady Warriors battled back with six runs of their own in the home side of the third inning. Milligan closed the gap in the fourth inning with two runs, and another run in the sixth. However, the Buffaloes were unable to close the gap any further in the seventh inning.
 
   Chelsey Weaver (Louisville, Tenn.) was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Lambdin finished 1-for-2 with three runs scored. Connatser ended the game 1-for-3.
 
   Megan Nicol (Surry, British Columbia) was handed the loss. In three innings of work, the sophomore allowed six runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
 
   Milligan falls to 2-11 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Thursday, March 14, as they return to Appalachian Athletic Conference action at Point University. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
