Milligan softball sees win streak snapped at Columbia

Columbia, S.C. (April 10, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team saw an eight game win streak snapped on Wednesday as they fell in two Appalachian Athletic Conference games to Columbia College in Columbia, S.C. The Buffaloes were unable to complete a rally in the first game as they fell 9-6, and then dropped the night cap 10-2.

In the first game, the Buffaloes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Milligan led until Columbia battled back to take a 9-2 lead heading in the final inning. Taylor McGinnis (Knoxville, Tenn.) started a furious rally as she hit a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh inning. Milligan tacked on another run to pull within three runs, and got the tying run to bat. However, they were unable to score the runs to complete the rally.

In the second game, the Fighting Koalas jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play. Jessie Wheelock (Gray, Tenn.) and McGinnis responded with solo homeruns to cut the gap to 5-2 in the fifth inning. However, the Buffaloes were unable to answer five late Columbia runs before the final out.
