Milligan softball falls in nonconference doubleheader

Tigerville, S.C. (April 11, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team came up short in a pair of games to NCAA Division II North Greenville University on Thursday in Tigerville, S.C. The Buffaloes fell 6-0 in the day's first game, and then dropped the second game 9-0.

In the first game, the Lady Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Milligan saw Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Jessica Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) reach base in the fifth inning, but the Buffaloes were unable to drive the runs across home plate. Jessica Wheelock (Gray, Tenn.) reached second base for Milligan in the sixth. However, she was left on base, and North Greenville added runs in the sixth and seventh inning to take the victory.

Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss in the pitching circle as she allowed two earned runs on 10 hits. The Buffaloes were held hitless, but had three runners reach base on walks and hit by pitch.

In the second game, J. Connatser used a single to get on base in the first inning, and Lambdin reached base on a walk. However, Milligan was unable to score in the frame, and the Lady Crusaders took a 2-0 lead in the home side of the inning. The next three innings saw the Buffaloes strand five runners on base. North Greeneville extended their lead with runs in the fifth and sixth to take the victory.

J. Connatser and Lambdin were both 1-for-2 to lead the way at the plate. Mackenzie Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.) was handed the loss in the pitching circle for the Buffaloes. In four innings of work, Lilley allowed two earned runs on three hits.

The Buffaloes fall to 11-18 overall on the season.

Milligan returns to action on Sunday, April 14, as they travel to Tusculum College for a single nonconference game. First pitch in Greeneville, Tenn., is set for 4 p.m.
