Milligan College, Tenn. (April 20, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team split a pair of games with Bryan College on Saturday to capture a crucial Appalachian Athletic Conference series at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-3 victory in the day's second game after falling 6-1 in the opening game.

  In the first game, Bryan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, and the Lions extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning. Milligan broke onto the board in the bottom of the sixth when
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) crossed home plate. However, the Buffaloes were unable to add another run before the end of the game.

Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) went 1-for-2 at the plate, while
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.),
Tyree Jeffries (Jackson, Tenn.) and
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) all added a hit for the Buffaloes.

  The second game saw neither team able to score until Bryan managed a single run in the top of the fourth inning. After the Lions increased their lead to 3-0 in the fifth, the Buffaloes responded with a furious rally in the final inning. Buck started the inning as he crossed home plate on a Bryan wild pitch, and
Brett Mercurio (West Palm Beach, Fla.) used a double to score
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.). Millsap propelled the Buffaloes to victory with a two-run RBI double to left field that scored
Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) and Mercurio.

  On the mound,
Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) received a no-decision in just over six innings of work. Watts allowed three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) picked up the win.

    McPherson led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-2. Millsap and Mercurio each finished the game 1-for-3.

  With the win, the Buffaloes improve to 9-12 in AAC action and 22-22 overall.

  Milligan returns to action on Friday, April 26, as they kick off the final AAC series of the season at Montreat College. First pitch for the series opening nine-inning contest is set for 1 p.m., in Black Mountain, N.C.
