Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 13, 2013) --- The Milligan College volleyball team was unable to hold off a Reinhardt University rally as they fell 3-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Friday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

  After the teams traded points to open the match, the Buffaloes used a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Reinhardt closed the gap to two points, but Milligan battled back to take a 25-20 first set victory. The second set saw neither team able to pull away as the set was knotted at 19-19. However, the Buffaloes edged ahead with kills by
Samantha Bruinius (Chicago, Ill.) and
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) propelled the Buffaloes to a 25-23 set victory.

  Reinhardt jumped out to an early lead in the third set as they forced a fourth set with a 25-19 victory. After the Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set, Milligan battled to tie the set at 11-11, but Reinhardt pulled away 19-15 lead. The Buffaloes used a pair of kills from Whaley to pull within two. However, that was as close as they would get as they fell 25-18 in the set.

  In the decisive fifth set, Milligan cut an early deficit to one point as
Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) set up Whaley and Bruinius for kills. However, Reinhardt used a 5-1 run to pull away and take a 15-8 set victory.

  Whaley finished the game with 19 kills and two solo blocks. Bruinius recorded 16 digs and 10 kills, while
Kaitlyn Round (Billings, Mont.) had a team high 17 digs. Davenport tallied 43 assists and 14 digs.

  With the loss, Milligan falls to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, as they host AAC newcomer Truett-McConnell inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Match time is set for 11 a.m.ÂÂ
