Franklin Springs, Ga. (Sept. 6, 2013) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked up three victories on Friday at the Battle of the Springs hosted by Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. The Buffaloes dispatched Paine College 3-0, Northwood (Fla.) University 3-1 and closed the day with a 3-0 victory over Coker College.

  In the opening game of the day against Paine College, the Buffaloes jumped out early and never looked back in the first set as they picked up a 25-13 set victory. Milligan continued to hold the momentum as they won the second set by a score of 25-21, and secured the win with a 25-22 third set victory.

Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) recorded 27 assists, while
Heather Harvey (Bristol, Tenn.) had 11 assists.
Kaitlyn Round (Billings, Mont.) had a team high 14 digs.
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) and
Grace Ann Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) recorded 10 kills apiece, and
Samantha Bruinius (Chicago, Ill.) tallied eight digs.

  In the second match of the day, Milligan picked up a 25-23 first set victory over Northwood. The Buffaloes outlasted the Lady Seahawks 25-21 in the second set, but fell 25-19 in the third game. Milligan, however, battled back in the decisive fourth set as they took a 25-17 victory to win the match.

  Round led the way with 21 digs, while Whaley had a game high 18 kills. Bruinius and Moorhouse finished with 17 and 13 digs, respectively. Davenport had 42 assists in the match.

  In the nightcap, the Buffaloes pulled away in the first set to take a 25-20 victory, and then held off a late rally to take the second set by a score of 26-24. Milligan secured the match with a 25-22 third set victory.

  Whaley had 14 kills in the match, and Davenport recorded 31 assists and eight digs. Round finished the game with 11 digs.
Emilee Linkous (Morristown, Tenn.) and Bruinius had six kills apiece.

  Milligan improves to 3-7 on the season.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7, as they wrap up the Battle at the Springs with two games. Milligan opens the day against Point University at 11 a.m., and closes out the tournament against host Emmanuel at 3 p.m.
