MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 25, 2014) â€" It was another team effort for the Milligan College men's basketball team Saturday night at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse as the Buffaloes cruised past Tennessee Wesleyan College 95-83.
ÂÂ
Milligan won its fifth straight to improve to 13-7 (7-5 AAC). Tennessee Wesleyan fell to 12-9 (8-4 AAC).
ÂÂ
Cartree Pettis led a handful of double-digit scorers for Milligan, pouring in 19 points while adding seven assists. Pettis had 12 of his team's first 26 points as Milligan jumped out to a nine-point lead through the first nine minutes of play.
ÂÂ
The Buffs would go ahead by 13 at halftime, 50-37, before adding to their lead in major ways during the second half. A bucket by
Torian Sitton at the 13:47 mark gave Milligan its largest lead of the game (74-50), and
Morgan McLeod's two-pointer on the outside of one minute helped squash Tennessee Wesleyan's attempt to get any closer than nine.
ÂÂ
Sitton scored 14 points and added seven rebounds. McLeod scored 15 points with seven boards.
ÂÂ
Mickey Woods was the only player to record a double-double. He had 15 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Woods also tallied six assists and four steals.
ÂÂ
Milligan shot 53.0% (35-66) from the field for the game, including 5-for-14 (35.7%) from three-point territory in the first half.
ÂÂ
The Buffs will look to continue their momentum as they take to the road on Wednesday, Jan. 29 for a 7:30 p.m. contest at No. 25 Union College (17-3, 10-1 AAC). Union defeated Milligan 80-72 in the teams' conference opener back in November.
