BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 30, 2014) â€"
Mickey Woods scored 31 points, including 19 in the second half, but the late-game shootout favored No. 22 Union College, 102-94, Thursday night in AAC men's basketball action at Robsion Arena.
ÂÂ
Milligan snapped its run of five straight victories and saw its record drop to 13-8 (7-6 AAC). The Union Bulldogs, winners of their last nine games, stayed perfect during the month of January and improved to 19-3 (11-1 AAC), tops in the AAC. Union also completed the season sweep over Milligan, having won the earlier meeting 80-72 (Nov. 12).
ÂÂ
Woods was 8-for-17 from the floor, 5-for-12 from three, and 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the loss. The junior scored Milligan's last five points of the first half and another six during a 9-4 run the Buffaloes put together in the early minutes of the second. His 11 points during that stretch helped Milligan cut a 12-point deficit down to a one-possession game with 17:35 to go, but Union used a hot hand to pull away. The Bulldogs were 48.1% (13-27) from the floor in the second half and 48.4% (30-62) from the floor in the game.
ÂÂ
Unions' Deante Johnson led all scorers with 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting. He also added 16 rebounds for a double-double. DeAntray Stevens scored 26 points and had four steals.
ÂÂ
Beyond cutting it to three early in the second half, Milligan faced a double-digit deficit nearly the rest of the way. The Buffaloes cut it to five on a basket by
Cartree Pettis with 40 seconds left, capping an 18-8 run over the previous two minutes, but it was too little, too late.
ÂÂ
Pettis finished with 13 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Mike Woods, Jr. scored 13 points from the bench.
