Marissa Langford recorded her first career double-double as the Milligan College volleyball team took its third straight conference win over Truett-McConnell College, 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-14) Friday evening.

Milligan (12-12, 6-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference) moved within a game and a half of second-place Union College, three games behind first place Bryan College, the only undefeated team in the AAC.

The Lady Bears charged out in game one, stealing the lead with a six-point run (10-6). They defended the lead with an additional five-point run to make it 21-14, and taking the final four points, the Lady Bears captured game one 25-19.

This time, it would be Milligan's turn to rally.

Three kills from
Kayla Moore and two more from
Savannah Benton put the Buffs in a comfortable lead of 11-2, and from there, the Buffs controlled game two, benefiting from eight errors committed by the Lady Bears. Langford and
Bailey Thomas would work together to take the final four points for the Buffs, with Thomas earning two kills and Langford earning a kill and a service ace for the win.

Trading runs of five or more points, the Buffs and the Lady Bears tied the game at 9-9 in game three. Truett-McConnell took the lead for a short while (16-13), but Milligan would not be put away so easily and battled back to take the game 25-22.

Jessica Davenport served up an early Buffs lead in game four (9-1), and from there, they never looked back, taking the game 25-14.

Langford earned 13 kills and 13 digs, receiving her first career double-double. Davenport racked up 45 assists on the total 48 kills of the Buffs.

Kaitlyn Round recorded a season-high 26 digs, as four Milligan players earned 10 or more digs against the Lady Bears.
Charlie Bateman and Thomas led the defense with Bateman recording two solo blocks and three block assists and Thomas taking four block assists.

Milligan has one more game on the road against Point University (4-15, 0-8 AAC) on Oct. 11 before returning home to take on Montreat College on Oct. 14. Live video will be provided for the match against Montreat.
