JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2014) â€" In a match where the Milligan College women's soccer team trailed for nearly 80 minutes,
Caroline Gill's late score helped the Buffaloes earn a senior day draw with Reinhardt University, 1-1 in two overtimes, on a chilly Saturday evening at Science Hill High School.
ÂÂ
Milligan remained .500 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, moving to 4-7-2 (3-3-2 AAC) on the season. Reinhardt maintained a record of 10-3-1 (6-2-1 AAC), where the Lady Eagles rank third in league standings.
ÂÂ
Milligan's equalizer came in the 86th minute after a
Christine Hardin corner kick found Gill wide open at the far post for an easy putaway. The goal, Gill's first of the season, sparked an attack frenzy from both sides as the two teams closed out the final 25 minutes with numerous scoring chances. The second overtime was especially marked by opportunity as Milligan goalkeeper
Charlotte Stephens kept the game alive with a diving stop on a shot taken by Kristin Clegg at the near post. Not to be outdone, Reinhardt goalkeeper Taylor Asher did her one better a minute and a half later at the other end, diving to stop a shot taken by
Alexa Bigl from close range.
ÂÂ
Reinhardt outshot Milligan 9-8 in the contest, although the Buffaloes had the advantage, 4-3, in shots put on frame. Stephens had two saves compared to three from her counterpart Asher.
ÂÂ
Milligan's offense was paced by
Lauren Brewer and Gill who each took two shots, one apiece on goal.
ÂÂ
Reinhardt received its goal in the ninth minute when forward Lindsey White took a shot from roughly 20 yards out along the right side. White targeted the near post where Stephens was only able to get a hand on it before it found the back of the net.
ÂÂ
Milligan has two games left in the regular season, the first of which will be at home on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. against Union College (5-7, 1-6 AAC). The Buffaloes will then host an alumni match over homecoming weekend then close out the regular season on the road.
