Davis' second-half goal gives women's soccer draw against Montreat

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 8, 2014) â€" Two 45-minute halves and two 10-minute overtime periods were not enough time to determine a winner Wednesday night at Anglin Field as the Milligan College women's soccer team drew a tie with Montreat College, 1-1.

Milligan, which fell behind 1-0 roughly 20 minutes in, battled back to force the draw and avoid what would have been its first loss in the last two and a half weeks. The Buffaloes moved their record to 4-5-1 (3-1-1 AAC) where they stand a game out of first place in league standings. Montreat's record moved to 4-6-1 (2-2-1 AAC).

Freshman Brittany Davis provided Milligan with the equalizer in the 56th minute following a corner kick from Christine Hardin that also came off the foot of Lauren Brewer in the box. It came minutes after Montreat goalkeeper Kelly Limon made a series of brilliant saves to keep the Cavalier lead at 1-0. On one of her saves, Hardin went for the near post from close range but was met with the outstretched arms of Limon who deflected it away for a corner kick.

Milligan earned 10 corner kicks in all, including nine in the second half and overtime periods. The Buffaloes surrendered five corner kicks on their end, and Montreat outshot Milligan 13-12 (8-7 on shots on goal). Sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Stephens made five saves in the first half and finished with seven on the night.

Milligan took control after the intermission, seeming to do all but take the lead against the visiting Lady Cavaliers. Beyond the first 45 minutes, Milligan earned nine corner kicks to Montreat's three and 11 shots to Montreat's three.

Milligan will be back at home on Saturday for another AAC matchup, facing first-place St. Andrews University (8-1-1, 4-0-1 AAC) at 12 p.m. on Anglin Field.
