MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2014) â€" For all 14 innings of the afternoon, Milligan College's baseball team kept visiting Johnson University hitless as the Buffaloes came away with a doubleheader sweep (17-0 and 20-0) at Anglin Field Saturday.
ÂÂ
Milligan (2-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in game one, scoring five in the first, four in the second, and three in the third en route to a 17-0 shellacking. Four Buffaloes had two hits in the winning effort while
Sam Tarlton accounted for three runs, and
Edwin Soto had four RBIs.
ÂÂ
Ethan Fleenor picked up the win in what was the Buffs' home opener. Fleenor struck out seven across four innings and did not allow a base runner until the top of the fourth.
Tyler Wilson,
Logan Wright and
Jake Howell pitched an inning apiece in relief. The trio added six more punchouts while only allowing one runner past first.
ÂÂ
Game two, essentially a replay of game one, saw seven Buffaloes record multiple hits, most notably
Corey McPherson, who was 5-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs. Tarlton drove in four, two of which came on a home run to right field in the fifth. It was the junior's first career long ball.
ÂÂ
Starting pitcher
Jake Watts walked the opening batter of game two before settling down to retire nine of the next 10. Watts fanned seven of the 10 batters he faced.
ÂÂ
Milligan will begin a three-week-long road slate next Friday, Feb. 14 with a trip to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. The Buffs will return home Saturday, March 8 for the conference opener against Union College.
