ATHENS, Tenn. (March 21, 2014) â€" Milligan College's softball team used home runs and strong pitching to secure two more league wins at Tennessee Wesleyan College Friday, besting the Lady Bulldogs 14-6 and 6-1 in an AAC doubleheader.
ÂÂ
The Buffaloes, 9-3 in the month of March, improved to 9-8 overall (8-0 AAC) and stayed at the top of league standings. Tennessee Wesleyan moved to 9-17 (5-5 AAC).
ÂÂ
Milligan fell behind early in game one but stormed back with runs in every inning past the first.
Kimberly Robinson hit a two-run homer in the top of the second to make it 3-2, and
Natalie Sheffey followed with a two-run shot to tie it at four an inning later.
ÂÂ
Sheffey finished 3-for-5 with five RBI's and two runs as Milligan put the game out of reach with four-spots in the fourth and fifth.
Maleah Wolfenbarger also went 3-for-5, adding a double, an RBI and two runs.
ÂÂ
Jessica Goodson picked up the win (3-2) in relief, going 5.1 innings of two-hit ball. She struck out four and allowed two (unearned) runs.
ÂÂ
Chancli Connatser made the game one start and was chased after only an inning and two-thirds but made up for it with a complete game in the nightcap. Connatser struck out three while allowing one (unearned) run in her fifth complete game of the season. She improved to 5-4.
ÂÂ
Milligan got on the board in the fourth when
Taylor McGinnis went yard for the third time in the last four games. Another four-spot in the fifth was enough cushion for the Buffaloes to secure their fourth straight victory.
ÂÂ
Milligan will return home for a nonconference doubleheader against University of the Cumberlands Monday, March 24 at 2 p.m. on Anglin Field. Both games will be streamed live online.
