Lambdin walk-off, Goodson gem give softball sweep of Union

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 9, 2014) â€" Krista Lambdin capped a seventh-inning rally with a walk-off base hit in game one, and Jessica Goodson allowed two runs over seven innings in game two to propel the Milligan College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of AAC foe Union College Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field.
 
Scores were 3-2 in game one and 4-2 in game two.
 
Milligan (4-5, 4-0 AAC) won its fourth straight to climb to the top of the conference standings. Union, which scored 30 runs in 10 innings of action on Saturday, was held to four runs today and dropped to 13-9 (0-4 AAC).
 
Lambdin had only one hit in game one but provided it when her team needed it the most. With one out and the bases loaded, Lambdin jumped on the first pitch she saw, reaching on an infield base hit to complete a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Jessica Wheelock provided the game-tying run one batter earlier when she took an 0-1 pitch to deep center, scoring Natalie Sheffey. Wheelock finished game one 2-for-3 with two RBI's, having put a solo home run into orbit in the fifth.
 
Wheelock was the only Buffalo with multiple hits in game one as Union starting pitcher Rachel Cogdill allowed only five hits with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Her counterpart, Chancli Connatser, allowed 10 hits across seven innings but came away the winning pitcher. Connatser improved to 2-3.
 
In game two, Goodson threw seven strong innings and allowed only two runs (one earned) on 11 hits and a walk. She improved to 1-2.
 
Goodson gave up a run in the second, but Milligan battled back with a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth.
 
Lambdin and Makenzie Lilley had two hits apiece in game two.
 
Milligan will be back at home over the next two days, hosting Brevard College on Monday and North Greenville University on Tuesday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Anglin Field.
