MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 12, 2014) â€" Georgia Gwinnett College needed extra innings in game one and a four-run rally across the fifth and sixth innings of game two to get past the Milligan College softball team in a doubleheader sweep, 7-4 and 5-4, at Anglin Field on Saturday.
ÂÂ
Milligan (18-15, 14-4 AAC) trailed 4-0 through the first four and a half innings of game one but rallied to tie with runs in the fifth and sixth only to see Georgia Gwinnett (33-7-1) win it with a three-spot in the top of the ninth.
Jessica Goodson had the double that wound up bringing home
Jessica Connatser to tie the game in the sixth, but the left-hander was on record when GGC scored three runs on three hits and two errors in the last inning.
ÂÂ
Goodson, who relieved
Kimberly Robinson in the fifth, held the Grizzlies to one hit from the end of the fifth until the start of the ninth but suffered her third loss of the season.
ÂÂ
J. Connatser and
Chancli Connatser each had two hits in the opener.
ÂÂ
Game twoÂÂ
Taylor McGinnis hit her second home run in the last three games to give Milligan a 2-1 lead and start a fourth-inning rally where the Buffaloes went up by three. But it was all Grizzlies from there as Heather Kilar and Alycia Fields drove in runs in the next inning to tie the game back up at four, and Cassidy Littlefield drove in the winning run with a one-out single in the sixth.
ÂÂ
C. Connatser (10-8) threw her ninth complete game of the season and held Georgia Gwinnett to just two earned runs (five total) on six hits and four walks but was saddled the loss.
ÂÂ
Six Buffaloes recorded hits in game two, including McGinnis who homered and
Natalie Sheffey who doubled and scored.
ÂÂ
Milligan closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at home against Bryan College (23-18, 12-4 AAC) on Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. The AAC conference tournament is set for the following week, April 22-25.
