Game Recap: Baseball |

Pitching solid, but baseball falls at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. (April 18, 2014) â€" In a doubleheader that was moved up to Friday due to forecasted rain on Saturday, Milligan College's baseball team suffered two losses to St. Andrews University, 2-0 and 4-2.

Milligan (20-21, 11-12 AAC) and St. Andrews are scheduled to conclude the series on Saturday, pending rain.

Ethan Fleenor made the start and turned in a complete game seven-hitter in game one but suffered the loss as SAU starting pitcher Joe McCarthy held the Buffs scoreless on two hits, also in a complete game.

Fleenor, who struck out three and walked one, gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the first which proved to be the difference in the game. St. Andrews added one more run to round out the scoring in the fifth inning when Tyler Radcliff repeated what he did in the first by doubling to lead off then scoring.

St. Andrews jumped on Tyler Wilson with four runs in the first inning of game two. Although the left-hander settled in to keep the Knights off the scoreboard for the final five innings, Wilson suffered a fate similar to Fleenor's.

Milligan's offense managed seven hits and only two runs in the doubleheader nightcap. The runs came off the bats of Edwin Soto and Dustin Clawson.

Luke Kirk and Tyler Weir each finished game two with two hits, going 2-for-3 in the loss.

After finishing the series at St. Andrews, Milligan will return to Anglin Field for its final homestand of the regular season.
