Malone walks off in baseball's split doubleheader

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 22, 2014) â€" About half an hour before Krista Lambdin provided the Milligan College softball team with a walk-off win in the AAC tournament up in Kingsport, Brandon Malone gave the Milligan baseball team a walk-off win here at Anglin Field.

Milligan (21-22, 11-12 AAC) topped Toccoa Falls College 4-3 in eight innings in game one before suffering a 10-0 loss to the visiting Eagles in game two.

An inning prior to Malone's walk-off double that scored Corey McPherson from first on the sixth pitch of the eighth inning, Milligan needed two runs to force the game into extras. Chavez Golden and Tyler Weir came through in the seventh with RBI singles.

Two batters after Weir delivered the tying run, Milligan had runners on first and second with only one out but could not push the winning run across.

Edwin Soto was the only Buff to record multiple hits in the opener. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

In game two, Milligan was shut out for only the fourth time this season. Toccoa Falls scored in only two frames but made each opportunity count, scoring three runs in the third and seven runs in the sixth. Only three of the runs Toccoa Falls scored in game two were earned as Milligan committed three errors.

Milligan will be at home for the final conference series of the season over the weekend, facing Montreat College (18-26, 8-14 AAC) Friday and Saturday.
