Women's soccer falls to Georgia Gwinnett 6-0

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2014) â€" A gloomy sky and chilly wind blanketed Anglin Field as the Milligan College women's soccer team fell to Georgia Gwinnett College 6-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Buffaloes fell to 1-4 overall on the season. They will start conference play next week against Truett-McConnell on Sept. 20.

The Buffs started the day with three quick shots at the goal off of a corner kick by Rebecca Buchanan, but the Grizzlies were able to turn them away empty-handed with two saves by goalkeeper Alex Hays and a block by Georgia Barton.

These would be the only shots that the Buffs would take in the first half as the Grizzlies stopped each of their advances.

The first goal for Georgia Gwinnett came in the 22nd minute following a corner kick from Bristol Countess (21:11) that was credited as an own goal by the Buffs.

The Grizzlies attacked again late in the first half to score two goals in less than three minutes, increasing the score to 3-0.

The Buffs mounted a comeback late in the second half, but they were unable to stop the charge of the Grizzlies as they put up three more goals after the halftime break.

Milligan made six shots in the contest, five of which were on goal. Christine Hardin had two of the six shots with Ansley Ferguson, Taylor Hatmaker, Olivia Collier and Vanessa Quinones making up the rest with one apiece. Charlotte Stephens faced 19 shots and recorded five saves against the Grizzlies.

The Buffs start conference play next week on Sept. 20 against Truett-McConnell College. They will travel to Cleveland, Georgia, with game time set to begin at 2 p.m.
