Volleyball rebounds with sweep over St. Andrews

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2014) â€" Jessica Davenport eclipsed the 2000 career assists mark and recorded a double-double to lead the Milligan College volleyball team past St. Andrews 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-20) Saturday afternoon.
 
Milligan moved to 9-9 on the season and improved its Appalachian Athletic Conference record at 3-2. The Buffaloes are now half a game out of second place in the league.
 
The Buffs fell behind early in game one (6-2), but they quickly battled back to tie the game at eight. Both teams traded points and the lead until the game stood 20-20, and from there the Buffs would take control. Three kills from freshman Marissa Langford, a kill from junior Emilee Linkous and a service error from the Lady Knights would give the Buffs the win 25-22.
 
Milligan would not fall behind again until game three. Instead, the Buffs jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game two and from there never looked back. They would extend their lead until they took the game 25-15.
 
The Lady Knights would not be unhorsed so easily though. They took the lead early in game three (2-1), and the two teams battled for the lead throughout the rest of the match as it changed hands seven times. The Buffs tied the game at 20-20, and then took the final five points of the game to win 25-20.
 
Jessica Davenport recorded a double-double on the day, with 29 assists and ten digs. Her career total for assists now stands at 2001, 606 of which she has compiled  so far this season. The Buffs had three other players with over 10 digs in the match as well, including Samantha Bruinius (17), Kaitlyn Round (13) and Heather Harvey (11).
 
Offensively, Langford led the Buffs with 14 kills, and Linkous added nine kills of her own, including two game-ending kills.
 
The Buffs go on the road for their next seven matches. Their next opponent will be King University in a nonconference matchup on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
