Volleyball swept in match against King, 3-0

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Sept. 30, 2014) â€"The Milligan College volleyball team came up on the short end of one of the quickest matches of the season Tuesday evening in nonconference action, falling to King University 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18).
 
Milligan fell to 9-10 on the season (3-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference). King reigns as the number one team in its conference with a record of 9-6 overall (3-1 Conference Carolinas).
 
The Buffaloes started game one trailing by only one point (2-1), but King went on a six-point run to put the game at 8-1. From there, King maintained control, eventually taking the first game 25-12.
 
Milligan showed a fighting spirit to tie game two early on (4-4), but a 10-0 run from the Tornado stopped the Buffs in their tracks (14-4). King took game two 25-12, as well.
 
Game three remained closer as the Buffs tied the game at 13. Charlie Bateman made three blocks in a row to give the Buffs a chance, but two five-point runs from King ended their rally. The Tornado took game three 25-18.
 
Marissa Langford led the Buffs in kills with four, and Kaitlyn Round made nine digs in the match. Jessica Davenport, who reached the 2000 career assist mark in her last match, made 10 assists on the 13 total kills the Buffs made.
 
The Buffs will continue their season on the road as they travel to Barbourville, Kentucky, to take on Union College on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m.
