Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball falls in challenge of No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. (Jan. 24, 2015) â€" A hard-fought first half failed to pay off as the Milligan College women's basketball team fell to No. 10 Tennessee Wesleyan College 70-51 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Buffs (7-14, 6-7 AAC), who came into Saturday's game with a four-game winning streak, fell behind early in the game, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to extend their lead to as many as 13 within the first seven minutes. However, in the last five minutes of the half, Milligan went 3-for-3 from behind the arc, bringing the game within one point with under a minute in the half.

Halftime didn't slow the Buffs down either, as they stampeded out of the locker rooms to take the lead, though holding onto it would prove to be difficult. Within five minutes, the lead changed six times with Tennessee Wesleyan ending up on top.

The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of a series of missed shots from the Buffs, growing their lead to 10 points. Tennessee Wesleyan scored the final 14 points of the game, capitalizing on four missed shots, four fouls and four turnovers from the Buffs in the last six minutes of the game.

In the end, Tennessee Wesleyan (20-1, 12-1 AAC) took the victory 70-51, their 11th straight win.

Allison Jones led Milligan with 18 points and three steals, as Chelsey Weddle narrowly missed another double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Hayley Wyrick scored nine points for the Buffs, breaking a 24-game streak of double digit shooting.

Milligan will return home next week as they host Union College on Wednesday, Jan. 28 in a double-header with men's basketball. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m., and live video will be provided on milliganbuffs.com.
