Women's soccer finishes nonconference play with 1-0 loss at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2015) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team lost to University of the Cumberlands 1-0 in its final nonconference match of the season on Saturday.

The loss was the seventh single-goal decision of the season for Milligan (3-9-1, 2-4-1 AAC) and marked the ninth time the Buffaloes conceded only two goals or less in a game. Cumberlands improved to 7-3-3 overall.

Milligan was outshot 10-3, including 6-1 on shots on goal, and took four corner kicks compared to Cumberlands' eight. Three of the Buffs corner kicks came in the last 20 minutes, the last of which was in the final 60 seconds and represented their last good chance to level the match at 1-1.

Keri Harrison took it but sailed it just high over the heads of two Buffs at the near post, and it was cleared away one last time by the Cumberlands defense.

Milligan's shots came from Amy Long who missed off the crossbar in the 41st minute, Callie West and Madison Thomas. Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Robinson played all 90 minutes and made five saves, matching her career high.

Cumberlands' goal was scored in the 35th minute by Asha Vilaythong.

Milligan will be on the road for its next match, facing Appalachian Athletic Conference foe St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina, on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The Buffs are back at Anglin Field for their home finale on Saturday, Oct. 24, against Bryan during homecoming weekend.
