Women's soccer falls to Bryan 2-0 on senior day

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2015) â€" Homecoming brought one of the largest crowds of the season to Anglin Field for the Milligan College women's soccer team's senior day, but the Buffaloes lost to Bryan College 2-0 on Saturday.

Milligan (3-11-1, 2-6-1 AAC) outshot Bryan (4-6-4, 2-3-4 AAC) 13-8, including 8-6 on shots on goal, and held a 3-2 edge on corner kicks, but the Buffs could not find the back of the net.

Senior Ellery Allonier, who paced Milligan's offense with four total shots and three shots on goal, gave the Buffs a great scoring chance in the opening minutes when she fed a through ball to Vanessa Quinones along the left side, but it was fended off by Bryan. From that point forward, it was a story of numerous close chances for Milligan.

Quinones earned another look a little later when she found separation from the Bryan defense again along the left side but could not manage a shot.

After Bryan took the lead in the 37th minute on a goal by Hana Mizoguchi, Milligan nearly tied it early in the second half on one from Keri Harrison. Brittany Davis would have had the assist on a beautiful service across the face of the goal but missed Harrison by a step.

Bryan made it 2-0 in the 56th minute on another goal by Mizoguchi, but Milligan continued to battle. With roughly 24 minutes left, Callie West forced a turnover in the box and took a shot to the near post which caromed off the post.

Six minutes later, Davis broke through Bryan's back line for a breakaway but was beaten to the ball by Lions keeper Morgana Hardt da Silva. Harta da Silva was forced to make eight saves in the match, compared to four from Charlotte Stephens at the other end.

Milligan will close out the regular season on the road, facing Reinhardt University (11-2-1, 6-1 AAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. The AAC tournament will follow during the first two weeks of November with higher seeds hosting the first two rounds.
