Women' soccer falls in regular season finale to AAC leader

WALESKA, Ga. (Oct. 28, 2015) â€" With the start of the AAC postseason less than a week away, Charlotte Stephens continued her strong junior season with an eight-save effort as the Milligan College women's soccer team fell to Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Reinhardt University 3-0 at Ken White Field in Wednesday's regular season finale.

Milligan finished the regular season 3-12-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the AAC, while Reinhardt (13-2-1, 8-1 AAC), winners of 10 of its last 11, won its fourth straight match with one more remaining before the postseason.

Stephens faced 28 shots, including 13 on goal, and made eight saves. Stephens has had a career year as a junior, becoming statistically one of the top keepers in the AAC. Stephens has made 85 saves on the year with an average of over six per match, breaking her previous season-high mark of 74 from last year. She also set a new career high with 12 saves against St. Andrews, and has matched her previous career high with nine twice while recording seven or more saves eight times throughout the season.

Reinhardt got on the board in the 14th minute on a goal from the reigning AAC offensive player of the week Madie Easterwood, before adding a pair later in the first half.

Milligan was never able to battle back after putting up only two shots in the first half, allowing the Lady Eagles to double the lead in the 36th minute then triple it in the 37th. Megan McCall, who assisted Easterwood on the opening goal, was the beneficiary with a goal off a blocked shot on the second, while Allie Hale rounded out the scoring off the pass from Katie Goodrich.

The Buffaloes were led offensively by Amy Long, who had two shots, and Caroline Gill, who had one. Long and Gill each had one shot on goal as well.

With the regular season over, Milligan will begin the conference tournament with an opening-round game on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The AAC quarterfinal matchups are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7. Times and opponents are to be determined.
