MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2015) â€" Despite a strong effort late in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Milligan College softball team lost both games on the road against North Greenville University (10-2, 4-3).

Milligan, who has only been able to compete in one other series this season due to heavy winter weather, fell to 1-3, as North Greenville evened its record at 5-5.

The Crusaders took the lead in game one with a run in the bottom of the third, and after shutting the Buffs down, they increased their lead with four more runs in the fourth.

Milligan answered with two runs of its own in the fifth, but North Greenville continued to find all the answers, scoring five more runs and ending the game once their 10th run was scored.

Game two featured a similar story at first, as the Crusaders charged out to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, but the Buffs tied the game in the seventh (3-3), looking to take the win in extra innings. However, a wild pitch gave North Greenville the walk-off run, and the Buffs fell 4-3.

Milligan had 16 hits in the two-game series.
Natalie Hauser and
Jessica Wheelock led the team with three hits apiece, and
Natalie Sheffey's double in game one provided her with the team-high two RBIs.

The Buffs, looking forward to warmer weather, will travel to South Carolina to take on Columbia College on Sunday, March 1 in their first Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup. They will return home for their home-opener on Monday, March 2 as they host Bluefield College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. for both doubleheaders.
