MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 25, 2015) â€" Eight games in the last five days finally caught up to the Milligan College softball team as the Buffaloes were handed a doubleheader sweep by St. Andrews University, 5-0 and 8-3, at Anglin Field on Wednesday.
ÂÂ
Milligan (11-9, 8-6 AAC) was doomed by big innings in both games and suffered its first home sweep of the season. In game one, the damage was done in the third when St. Andrews (11-19, 8-2 AAC) opened the scoring with four runs on four hits, including a two-run double with one out. The Lady Knights again started the scoring in the third inning of game two but waited until the fourth to push it out to a big league.
ÂÂ
Immediately preceding St. Andrews' five-run fourth, Milligan punched one run across to make it a 2-1 ballgame and threatened for more in the bottom half of the third. The inning started with a bunt single by
Caroline Testerman and continued with an infield single by
Kimberly Robinson, a double steal, and an RBI ground ball by
Jessica Goodson. Milligan's rally ended with the bases loaded, marking three of the 10 runners left on base by the Buffaloes in the loss.
ÂÂ
Milligan left five of those runners in scoring position, three of which represented the tying or go-ahead run.
ÂÂ
Testerman and Robinson finished the nightcap with two hits apiece, joining
Makenzie Lilley in the multihit category. Goodson was 1-for-4 with an RBI in two plate appearances. She drove the first run in with the groundout in the third, then looked to spark a one-out rally in the seventh when she drove in Robinson on a single lined up the middle.
ÂÂ
Milligan has the weekend off from competition but returns to Anglin Field for another AAC doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan College on Tuesday, March 31. Action is set to be underway starting at 2 p.m. It will be the last home date of the current homestand and the penultimate home series of this season.ÂÂ
