WALESKA, Ga. (April 8, 2015) â€"
Kacie Skeen drove in four runs in both games of a doubleheader against Reinhardt University, and the Milligan College softball team won one, 5-4, and lost one, 8-7, to close out the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season slate on Wednesday.
ÂÂ
Milligan (14-14, 9-11 AAC), which is currently seventh in the AAC and can finish as high as fifth in the regular season, battled late rallies by Reinhardt (23-15, 13-3 AAC) in both games of the doubleheader.
Meghan Nicol pitched her way out of jams in the last two innings of game one but didn't have the same answers in the nightcap, surrendering a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two.
ÂÂ
Skeen put the Buffs on top early in game one, driving in two in a three-run first and another two in a two-run second as Milligan went ahead 5-1. Reinhardt cut the lead in half in the sixth and threatened for more, but Nicol escaped the inning with just the two runs despite facing a bases-loaded, nobody out situation.
ÂÂ
Nicol again ran into trouble in the seventh inning of the opener but again found her way out. Reinhardt, trailing 5-4, loaded the bases again with one out in the inning, but Nicol ended the threat with a strikeout and a flyout to last year's Gold Glove right fielder
Caroline Testerman.
ÂÂ
Skeen delivered again in game two with an RBI double to center field that scored two and gave the Buffs the lead 6-4 in the sixth.
Amanda Dunaway followed with a run-scoring single in the next at-bat to make it 7-4, but Reinhardt rallied right back with three in the bottom half and the walk-off in the seventh for their AAC-most 13th league win of the season.
ÂÂ
Milligan's sixth-inning, lead-changing rally in game two started with two out, the bases clear, and the Buffs trailing 4-3.
Jessica Connatser started it with a walk, stole second, then came around to score on a
Samantha Lilley single.
ÂÂ
Lilley, who would later score along with
Natalie Sheffey on Skeen's RBI-double, also had a game-tying single in her previous at-bat as Milligan erased a 3-2 Reinhardt advantage on her two-out single up the middle in the fourth.
ÂÂ
Milligan's next game will be the final home date of the regular season. Set for Friday, April 10, at 1 p.m. in a rematch against Tennessee Temple University, the Buffs will honor the senior class in between games.
