LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Sept. 13, 2015) â€"
Charlotte Stephens made six saves, but the Milligan College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to Georgia Gwinnett College on the road Sunday afternoon.
ÂÂ
Fresh off a 5-0 victory of its own the last time out, Milligan (1-3) surrendered three goals in the first half and two more in the second on the way to the loss. It marked the first time the Buffs were shut out and only the second time the Buffs allowed more than one goal in regulation this season.
ÂÂ
GGC (3-2), receiving votes in the NAIA top-25 poll, came into the match on a week's rest after suffering a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Keiser University last Sunday. Bristol Countess, who scored the go-ahead goal at Keiser, got the scoring started against the Buffs when she converted a penalty kick in the first minute, only 24 seconds into the match.
ÂÂ
With a similar start to the second half, Countess assisted the fourth goal of the game in the 46th minute, just 27 seconds after the break.
ÂÂ
For Milligan,
Caroline Gill,
Keri Harrison and
Callie West all managed shots. Harrison and West put theirs on goal, but GGC keeper Courtney Hicks made saves on both.
ÂÂ
Milligan will remain on the road for its next two games, facing nearby Montreat College on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. before heading to Union College on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Buffs will be back home on Sept. 23 against King University.
