MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 23, 2015) --
Charlotte Stephens, the reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, made some of her finest saves of the season Wednesday night for the Milligan College women's soccer team, but they came in a 5-0 loss to neighboring foe King University.
ÂÂ
Stephens made nine saves, marking her season high while matching her career high. The only other time Stephens made nine saves in a game was against King on the road last season.
ÂÂ
The match was decided in the 16th minute but most of the scoring came during a nine-minute span in the middle of the first half. After King's Hulda Sigurdardottir scored the eventual winner on a well-struck shot from the top of the 18, King used two goals from Kara Garrett (20', 29') and one by Kendyl Baird (23') to put the game out of reach.
ÂÂ
Milligan (2-4-1, 1-0-1 AAC) came out strong in the second half and, minus a goal in the 49th minute, played the Tornado an even match over the last 45 minutes. Stephens made three of her saves after the break while the energy of freshman defender
Holley Kegley provided the Buffs a spark off the bench.
ÂÂ
Milligan will be back home at Anglin Field on Saturday for an AAC matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan College at 5 p.m. with a men's game to follow at 7 p.m.
