BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 11, 2016) â€"
Hayley Wyrick scored 27 points to lead the No. 24 Milligan College women's basketball team to an 87-77 victory over Bethel College Friday night in a neutral-site contest on the campus of Union College.
ÂÂ
Sophomore
Sarah Robinson scored 21 points and added 11 rebounds as Milligan improved to 1-2 this season, recording the victory in its first contest against a non-nationally ranked opponent.
Kelly Barnett and
Mackenzie Raizor both reached double figures in scoring as well with 11 and 10 respectively, and senior
Lindsee Price had eight points.
ÂÂ
Milligan led most of the way, building a 10-point lead late in the first half and extending it to as many as 12 in the middle of the third quarter. Bethel chipped into the lead, however, with a 7-1 run followed by a four-point run late in the third quarter that tied the game at 56-56. While Bethel was able to bring it back even, Milligan denied any lead changes, scoring a couple of
Andi Lamb free throws which gave the Buffs the lead for good with 1:36 left in the third quarter.
ÂÂ
Milligan again extended its lead back out to double digits in the fourth quarter and made free throws down the stretch to seal the win. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Milligan will play its second game of the tournament on Saturday versus Lourdes University at 2 p.m. The Buffs will then be home on Wednesday, Nov. 16, for a women's and men's doubleheader against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan University beginning at 5:30 p.m.
