Courtney Wilson and
Morgan Gose led the No. 23 Milligan College women's basketball team with double figures off the bench, but the Buffs lost to NCAA Division I Longwood University 71-47 in an exhibition matchup Saturday afternoon to close out 2016 on New Year's Eve.

Wilson and Gose scored 11 and 10, respectively, while
Kelly Barnett and
Sarah Robinson added seven points apiece. Barnett led the Buffs in rebounding with six, and
Lindsee Price had four assists.

Milligan (10-5) got off to a good start with Barnett hitting a 3-pointer on the Buffs' opening possession, and the Buffs held a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Longwood, however, started to take control in the second quarter, using a 21-12 run to end the opening half. Longwood led 45-32 at the intermission and managed to keep the lead in double digits for the entire second half.

Milligan, which won three of its last four regular-season games of 2016, will begin the 2017 leg of the season with three Appalachian Athletic Conference games next week. The Buffs first travel to Allen University and Bryan College on Tuesday and Thursday before hosting Point University on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m.
