Baseball completes first sweep of season with lopsided win

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 6, 2016) â€" After bringing in the game winning run with a sacrifice fly in game two on Saturday, Hunter Suggs scored four times and started off 3-for-3 on Sunday as the Milligan College baseball team took down Montreat College 11-1 at Anglin Baseball Field.

Suggs started the game off with two doubles and two leadoff hits, three total hits, in the first four innings as the Buffaloes scored twice in each of the first two innings and again scored twice in the fourth. Thomas Miller, Bryan Soto and Shane Salley each collected runs batted in the first two innings, while Salley brought in two more runs in the fourth with what was his second RBI single to center of the game. Suggs and Soto each came around to score on Salley's hit in the fourth for their third and second runs of the game, respectively.

Milligan then exploded for five runs in the fifth on RBI hits to right field by Braden Jones, Townsend and Salley. Townsend and Salley's were both doubles down the right field line while Townsend's was also a three-RBI knock that cleared the bases.

Salley finished 3-for-3 on the day with four RBI's while Townsend was 1-for-2 with two walks. After the group of Suggs, Soto, Townsend and Salley combined for six hits in both of Milligan's wins over Montreat on Saturday, they were even better on Sunday, hitting a combined 8-of-13 with eight runs scored and eight runs batted in between them.

Campbell (2-3) went all seven innings for the first complete game of his senior season and the fifth of his career. Campbell allowed only two hits on the day while striking out a season-high six batters. Additionally, he lowered his season earned run average from 8.83 to start the game down to 6.66 at the finish.

After Montreat put runners on first and second with no outs in the fourth, Campbell got out of the inning with a lineout to Suggs at short and a 4-6-3 double play. He then stranded runners on second and third in the fifth on three groundouts, all to Suggs, before giving up the Cavalier's only run of the game in the sixth.

With the wins, Milligan improved its record to 8-10 overall and 3-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, while the Cavaliers dropped to 4-13 and 0-3.

Next up, Milligan hosts a two-game series against Fisher College this week. The Buffs and Falcons will play at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, and then again at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9.
