Volleyball sweeps Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2016) â€" Samantha Bruinius and Marissa Langford led the Milligan College volleyball team's attack in a sweep of Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan University, 25-13, 28-26, 25-19, Tuesday night on the road.

The win was Milligan's (15-4, 6-0 AAC) third straight, fifth win in the last six matches, and 14th win in the last 16. It helped the Buffaloes stay perfect in the AAC where they remain the only unbeaten team.

Only the second game of the match proved to be a challenge as Milligan jumped out to early leads and never trailed in either of the other two games. Tennessee Wesleyan in fact had a lead of 26-25 in the middle game only to be denied by a Bruinius kill and pair of Bulldog errors to give Milligan the victory at 28-26. That helped Milligan close the second game on a 3-0 run, and the end of the set featured six of the Buffs' final seven kills coming from a different player.

Bruinius and Langford shared the lead in the kill column with 13 apiece, while Bailey Thomas reached 10 and reigning AAC Setter of the Week Kellee Geren tallied 37 assists. Milligan hit .378 as a team with 47 kills and only 10 attack errors in the match.

Defensively, Grace Ann Moorhouse had 12 digs, Bruinius had 10 digs, and Geren had eight.

Milligan will continue its current road stretch with a couple of matches on the campus of Bryan College on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Buffs are scheduled to be back home on Thursday, Sept. 29, for a nonconference match against UVa.-Wise.
