Volleyball picks up two more road AAC wins

DAYTON, Tenn. (Sept. 24, 2016) â€" Milligan College's women's volleyball team continued its two week road stretch on Saturday, taking on Appalachian Athletic Conference opponents Allen University and Bryan College. Continuing their strong conference play, the Buffaloes defeated both teams and stayed undefeated in AAC games.

Milligan (17-4, 8-0 AAC) started the day off with a straight set win over Allen (25-12, 25-20, 25-10).

Marissa Langford led the Buffaloes with 14 kills, only four errors, and finished with a .385 attack percentage. Seniors Samantha Bruinius and Bailey Thomas followed with three and five kills respectively. Setter Kellee Geren also had five kills of her own to go along with her 23 assists.

Sophomore Alyssa Rupert led a strong defensive effort with 14 digs, and senior Grace Ann Moorhouse contributed to the cause as well with 11 digs.

In the afternoon, Milligan had to face reigning 2015 AAC Regular Season Conference winner Bryan College. A higher contested match than the previous, the Buffaloes needed four sets to secure the win (25-23, 25-27, 25-13, 25-21).

After winning a tight first set, the Buffaloes dropped the second set after having a set point at 24-23. However, Milligan bounced back with an efficient third set, only committing two errors, posting a .306 attack percentage, and holding Bryan to a .042 percentage.   

Langford picked up where she left off from game one and had a nearly perfect game two. She tallied 17 kills with only one error for a .390 attack percentage. Bruinius and Thomas both had strong games as well, with 13 and eight kills respectively. Geren more than doubled her assists in game two, racking up 48.

Senior Charlie Bateman had one of her best games of the season, registering nine kills with only one error, a .420 attack percentage, and four blocks.

On the defensive side, Moorhouse led the Buffaloes with 30 digs with Rupert adding 14 to go along with her 14 from game one.

Milligan wraps up its six game road swing in a rematch against Union on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Buffaloes return home for its last nonconference game of the season on Thursday to host The University of Virginia's College at Wise.
