BLUEFIELD, Va. (Sept. 28, 2016) - Milligan College's women's soccer team traveled to Bluefield College on Wednesday night for its first road Appalachian Athletic Conference game. After being shut out the last two games, the Buffaloes found themselves on the winning side of a 5-0 shutout.
Milligan (5-4, 2-2 AAC) had lost its last two games both 1-0, but turned things around on offense. The Buffaloes' leading scorer Bekah Cundiff struck first with a first half goal, ending the team's scoring drought.ÂÂ
Led by four saves from goalkeeper Charlotte Stephens, Milligan's defense shut down Bluefield in the first half and carried the 1-0 lead into the half.ÂÂ
Nine minutes into the second half, Amy Olvera started what would become an offensive explosion, heading in a goal to add to the lead.ÂÂ
A few minutes later, Cundiff scored for the second time of the game off of an assist from Olvera. Cundiff leads the Buffaloes with seven goals scored on the season.
With 23 minutes left in the game, freshman Dharma Fawbush scored her third goal of the season to put the Buffaloes up 4-0.
Getting in on the scoring, Brittany Davis found the back of the net for the second time of the season in the closing minutes.
Both Milligan goalkeepers saw action tonight. Stephens added five saves to her season total, while Taylor Robinson had four.ÂÂ
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday when they travel to Point University for another AAC match up.
