DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's volleyball team traveled to Bryan College to win their fourth straight Appalachian Athletic Conference match Thursday night. The Buffaloes defeated the Lions in a tight 3-1 decision (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23).
The Buffaloes were led by seniors
Alora Ricker with 14 kills and
Marissa Langford with 13. Following was freshman
Julia Codispoti with nine and sophomore
Julie Dockery added eight for Milligan. Leading the Buffs in digs was junior libero
Alyssa Rupert with a total of 27. Langford added 13 digs while sophomores
Caroline Little and
Kellee Geren had 11 apiece. Geren earned 39 assists on the night.
Bryan led Milligan throughout the entire first game until the Buffaloes responded at point 18 going on a 8-0 run keeping the Lions at point 22 and securing the first set, 25-22. The tables turned in the second set as Milligan never let the Lions take the lead after point three pushing all the way to point 25 taking another set, 25-20. The Buffs led the Lions in the third set all the way up until Bryan tied the game at 17 and then again 19 apiece and 21 apiece. With 13 kills in comparison to Milligan's 12, the Lions secured their sole victory in the third set, 23-25. The Buffs came out strong and ready to attack in the fourth and final set earning five more kills than the Lions, 16-11. After 15 apiece it was a toe-to-toe race all the way to 20 apiece and furthermore to point 25 as the Buffs secured the AAC victory on a Codispoti kill, 25-23.
Up next, Milligan returns home for the next four matches. The Buffs take on Kentucky Christian University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m., and get right back into conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. as they face Bluefield College in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
