Women's soccer wins big on road

LAURINBURG, N.C. (Oct. 21, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team traveled to St. Andrews University on Saturday afternoon for another Appalachian Athletic Conference contest. After losing to the Knights in the 2016 season 1-0, the Buffaloes dominated the game defeating St. Andrews 5-1 moving their conference record to 6-1-2 and overall to 10-2-3.

Sophomore Bekah Cundiff got the scoring going first for Milligan when she connected for a goal in the 15th minute of the game off of an assist from senior captain Brittany Davis. It only took seven more minutes for another Buffalo goal that was kicked in by sophomore Alyson McMillan off of an assist by junior Amy Long. Milligan outshot St. Andrews 12-3 in the first half and again outshot them in the second half 16-6.

Cundiff found the back of the net for her second time of the game, 13th time this season, just seven minutes into the second half. In the 67th minute, freshman Ellie Cachiaras connected for her second collegiate goal off of an assist from fellow freshman Poppy Smith. In the final two minutes of the game, McMillan scored the fifth and final goal for the Buffs off of a corner kick. 

Overall, the Buffs earned six more corner kicks than the Knights (9-3).

Milligan was led for the second game in a row by Long with four shots. Cachiaras also had four shots and following was McMillan, fellow sophomore Dharma Fawbush and Smith with three apiece.

Both goalkeepers saw action. Freshman Eva Bower tallied two saves while junior Taylor Robinson had one in comparison to St. Andrews' Rachel Widdicks' seven. 

Up next, the Buffs travel to Columbia College (S.C.) for some more AAC action on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The match time is set at 5 p.m.
