COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 25, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team traveled to Columbia College Wednesday afternoon for another Appalachian Athletic Conference contest. The Buffaloes defeated the Koalas 4-2 moving their overall record to 11-2-3 and AAC record to 7-1-2.
While Bryan has secured the AAC regular season title, Milligan is now number two even with Tennessee Wesleyan. The Buffs tied TN Wesleyan earlier this season, which means it may come down to goal differential.
Milligan's Bekah Cundiff got the scoring going early connecting for her first goal of the game in the 13th minute. Columbia responded with a goal eight minutes later and again six minutes after that. With eight minutes left in the first half, Cundiff found the back of the net for the second time. It was Cundiff's 15th goal of the season. It only took three more minutes for fellow sophomore Alyson McMillan to connect for a goal putting the Buffs ahead 3-2 at the half.
After the Buffs outshot Columbia 13-7 in the first half, the team did so again 11-3 in the second half. In the 71st minute of the game, McMillan connected for the final goal of the game. It was McMillan's seventh goal of the season.ÂÂ
The Buffs were led by freshman Ellie Cachiaras with six shots and by McMillan with five shots. Cundiff added four shots.ÂÂ
Goalkeeper Eva Bower earned two saves on the night in comparison to Columbia's goalie Katherine Yahnke's eight.
Up next, Milligan returns home for their final home game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 28, against AAC foe Brenau University. The homecoming game time is set at 4 p.m. The AAC tournament is set to start on Tuesday, Oct. 31, with play in-games for the five through 12 seeds. Quarterfinals are set for Friday, Nov. 3, at the higher team's site.
