Seniors sent off with AAC victory

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 28, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team celebrated their seniors Saturday afternoon before wrapping up their 2017-2018 regular season schedule. Brittany Davis, Taylor Hatmaker, Sami Joy and Vanessa Quinones played their final regular season home game as Buffaloes and it was an exciting one. Milligan defeated the Brenau Golden Tigers 6-1.

In the first 12 minutes freshman Ellie Cachiaras crossed the ball into the box twice and both rolled off the feet of Brenau's defenders and were connectors for goals. It was not but 30 seconds later that sophomore Dharma Fawbush found the back of the net off of an assist by fellow sophomore Alyson McMillan. Furthermore, junior Amy Long connected for the fourth goal of the game off of an assist from Joy following a corner kick by McMillan.

Cachiaras found the back of the net in the 23rd minute of the game following another corner kick by McMillan. Long found Cundiff in the box in the 38th minute enabling her to connect for the sixth and final Buffalo goal of the game. The goal was Cundiff's 16th goal of the season putting her at the number one spot along with Tennessee Wesleyan's Nicole Broderick for most goals in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Buffs outshot the Golden Tigers 13-1 in the first half. Overall, Milligan earned seven more corner kicks than Brenau (8-1), five of which were in the second half. Moreover, Milligan went on to only allow one goal that was in the 56th minute of the game securing the AAC victory, 6-1.

The Buffs were led by Cundiff with five shots and McMillan with four shots. Both goalkeepers saw action. Freshman Eva Bower earned one save in the first half while junior Taylor Robinson earned three saves in the second half.

With the regular season wrapped up, Milligan has secured the three seed for the AAC tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 3. More details will follow regarding opponent and start time.
