Buffs shut out Columbia in AAC quarterfinals

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 3, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team hosted their first Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament matchup against the #6 seed Columbia College on Friday night. The Buffaloes defeated the Koalas for the second time this season, 2-0.

With a scoreless first half, the Buffs still managed to dominate and outshoot the Koalas 13-6. However, Milligan came back out ready to finish in the final 45 minutes of the game. Just five minutes into the second half sophomore Bekah Cundiff found fellow sophomore Alyson McMillan in the box enabling McMillan to find the back of the net for the Buffs' first goal of the game.

Milligan continued to dominate outshooting Columbia 12-6 and earning four corner kicks in comparison to the Koalas' one (10-1 overall).

Nonetheless, in the 74th minute Cundiff connected for her 17th goal of the season off of an assist by senior captain Brittany Davis securing the Buffs' first victory of the AAC Tournament against the Columbia Koalas, 2-0.

Milligan was led by junior Amy Olvera with five shots and Cundiff with four shots. Following was McMillan with three while Davis, Madison Hodges, Dharma Fawbush, Sami Joy and Ellie Cachiaras all had two apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Eva Bower earned five saves on the night, one of which was very crucial in the second half with a shot by Columbia's #12 Amber Tanner.

Up next, the Buffs will be on the road to #2 seed Tennessee Wesleyan for a semi-final AAC Tournament game. The match will be on Tuesday, Nov. 7, and the set time is to be determined. Milligan tied the TW Bulldogs in a 1-1 draw earlier this season.
