Women's soccer remains undefeated in AAC

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team remained undefeated in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after earning their second straight conference win on Anglin Field Saturday against the Point University Skyhawks. The Buffaloes defeated the Skyhawks 5-1 moving their conference record to 4-0-2 and overall record to 8-1-2.

The Buffs came out ready to attack first thing outshooting the Skyhawks 11-5 in the first half. It only took six minutes for senior Sami Joy to find the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Dharma Fawbush following a free kick. At the 13-minute mark, sophomore Bekah Cundiff connected for her eighth goal of the season following a corner kick by sophomore Alyson McMillan and off an assist by freshman defender Madison Hodges. Milligan earned five corner kicks in comparison to Point's zero in the first half.

Joy connected for her second goal of the game following a blocked shot that freshman Kasey Moore took. It was Joy's fourth goal of the season. In the final two minutes of the first half, freshman midfielder Annika Oiler found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal putting the Buffs at a 4-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, freshman Alexis Williams also connected for her first collegiate goal in the 75th minute. Three minutes later, however, the Skyhawks found their way to scoring their first and only goal of the match. Despite the Buffs being outshot by one in the second half, Milligan was dominant on both sides of the field and secured their second straight AAC victory (5-1).

Milligan was led by McMillan with four shots while Cundiff and Joy both followed with two apiece. Both goalkeepers saw action with Eva Bower tallying one save in the first half and Taylor Robinson tallying three in the second half.

Up next, the Buffs face two more AAC foes, Bryan College and Truett-McConnell University, on Anglin Field on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m.
