MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2017) â€" Senior
Alex Biggerstaff made his Senior Day one to remember, leading the Milligan College men's basketball team in a 107-78 runaway victory over visiting Johnson University Saturday afternoon.
ÂÂ
Biggerstaff, the team's lone senior who was honored prior to the game for his two seasons in a Milligan uniform, scored a team high 19 points while going 4-for-7 from 3-point range. He added two rebounds, two assists and a steal to help Milligan finish the regular season with a record of 14-15 (9-11 AAC). The Buffs will enter the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament next week on a three-game winning streak.
ÂÂ
Three other Buffs reached double figures for scoring, including
Bo Pless (14),
Aaron Levarity (12) and
Daxton Bostian (10), and 13 Buffs made at least one basket. It was a similar offensive effort to the last time Milligan and Johnson met, when the Buffs picked up a win on the road in overtime by a score of 108-99.
ÂÂ
Milligan trailed only twice in the contest, and never past the 16-minute mark of the first half. After Johnson (11-16) kept it close through the first 15 minutes, the Buffs answered an 8-0 Royals run with a 19-2 run of their own to open up a 23-point halftime lead at 53-30.
ÂÂ
Johnson was never any closer than that the rest of the way as Milligan extended the lead to as many as 34 in the second half. Freshman DeAndre Thomas had a bucket on a putback which gave the Buffs that lead at 97-63.
ÂÂ
For Johnson, Taylor Gilpin scored 26 points to lead all scorers. He surpassed 1,000 career points late in the second half.
ÂÂ
With the regular season over, Milligan will next be in the AAC tournament, scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 22-25, at the MeadowView Marriott in Kingsport.
