COCHRAN, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2017) - The Milligan College baseball team traveled to Cochran, Georgia, on Friday to start a three game series against the Middle Georgia State University Knights. The Buffaloes created opportunities to score early in the game, but struggled to take advantage and ultimately fell 4-0.ÂÂ
Milligan (5-7, 0-0 AAC) had a promising start to the game. With one out in the top of the first, Jascanel Ferreras and Ryan Young had back to back singles and the Buffs were threatening to score. However, Knights starter Mason Klotz forced a fly out and a strikeout to end the inning.ÂÂ
The second inning followed a similar pattern. The Buffs started off with singles from Juan Vasquez and Julian Johnson and the Buffs had two runners on with no outs. Klotz escaped again, this time striking out three Buffs in a row. In the first four innings, Milligan had seven runners on base but could not get any across home plate.
Heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Buffaloes trailed 1-0 before the Knights extended their lead. Middle Georgia State loaded the bases and a pair of sac flies put them up 3-0. The Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with a lead-off home run and went on to win 4-0.
The series will resume on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
