MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 25, 2017) â€"
Chandler Daniels struck out 10 and allowed only four hits over seven innings, but a failure to produce runs led to a 7-2 defeat for the Milligan College baseball team Saturday afternoon as Point University completed the sweep of the Appalachian Athletic Conference series.
ÂÂ
Daniels, after seeing Point score a run on the second pitch of the game, settled down quickly and allowed only two earned runs over the first six innings. With Milligan putting up a two-spot in the bottom of the second, the two teams were tied 2-2 after six innings, but the junior right-hander ultimately suffered the loss when Point scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh.
ÂÂ
Point added a couple of two-run homers in the top of the eighth to widen the margin.
ÂÂ
Milligan (13-16, 5-7 AAC) got its runs in the bottom of the first inning as back-to-back doubles from
Chris Patterson and
Clayton Conner flipped the score from a one-run deficit to a one-run advantage. Point evened the game at 2-2 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly which followed back-to-back singles.
ÂÂ
Milligan followed in each of the next three innings by putting the leadoff man on but came away empty in each. In the bottom of the third and fifth innings, the Buffs had two runners on with nobody out but was unable to push anyone across.
ÂÂ
Offensively, Milligan had seven hits in the game with two coming off the bat of Patterson, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
ÂÂ
Milligan's next game is scheduled for Tuesday when the Buffs travel to Shawnee State University. Milligan will then also be on the road over next weekend for Tennessee Wesleyan University for a three-game AAC series on Friday and Saturday.
