MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 6, 2017) â€" The Milligan College baseball team hosted nonconference opponent Fisher College Falcons in a doubleheader on Monday. The Buffalo bats came alive and put on one of the team's best offensive displays of the season, leading to an 8-3 victory in game one and 16-7 in game two.
ÂÂ
Andrew Copas led the way for Milligan (8-11, 1-2 AAC) in game one, driving in three runs including two off of a second inning single that put the Buffs up 4-1.
Ryan Young went two for three with a RBI and scoring a pair of runs.
ÂÂ
In the top of the fifth trailing 7-1, the Falcons scored a pair of runs and still had the bases loaded with two outs and the tying-run at the plate. Reliever
Justin Morefield came in and forced a fielder's choice, ending the Falcon threat. In the bottom of the fifth, Milligan responded with an insurance run to solidify its lead and keep Fisher at bay. Young scored on a wild pitch and effectively put the Buffs' lead out of reach. Morefield and Arnold Jackson finished the game off for Milligan, keeping the Falcons off the board.
ÂÂ
The offensive onslaught continued in game two with the Buffs doubling their run output. Milligan scored three runs in the opening frame, including two of
Bryan Soto's game-high four RBIs. During the team's next at-bat,
Jascanel Ferreras drove in a pair of runs with a triple to right-center and extended the Buff lead to 5-1.
ÂÂ
The majority of the offense came in the fourth and fifth innings when the Buffs scored 11 runs. In the fourth,
Hunter Suggs had a triple of his own that scored
Chris Patterson from second. During the next at-bat, Oliver found the hole between the shortstop and third baseman and drove Suggs home. A pair of runs scored during
Clayton Conner's at-bat, one off a wild pitch and the other during a groundout.
ÂÂ
The Falcons generated some much needed offense of their own in the top of the fifth. Trailing 10-2, the Fisher offense came up with a pair of doubles, three singles, and a sac fly leading to four runs with only one out. The Buffs rallied and forced a groundout and strikeout to end the Falcons' hit parade. In the bottom half of the inning, Milligan responded to Fisher's four runs with six and put the game away. Patterson started the inning with a solo shot over the left field fence, his first home run of the year. Later in the inning, Soto had his second two-RBI single of the game, scoring Copas and Ferreras.
ÂÂ
The Buffs never looked back and went on to win 16-7. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
William Oliver was key for the Buffs all day in the leadoff spot, going four of six and crossing home plate six times while adding an RBI of his own. Copas and Soto both drove in four runs each between the two games, while eight total Buffs contributed to the RBI column.
ÂÂ
Milligan returns to action for its first AAC road series of the season, taking on the Reinhardt Eagles in a three game series with game one scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
