Softball comes up short in AAC doubleheader

WALESKA, Ga. (March, 6, 2017) â€" The Milligan College softball team went on the road for the first time in Appalachian Athletic Conference play this season Monday afternoon to start spring break. Facing one of the top teams in the nation in No. 16 Reinhardt University, the Buffs fell in both games, by scores of 4-2 and 4-0.

Milligan (6-9, 1-3 AAC) trailed the first game 4-0 before threatening for a big inning in the fifth. Kacie Skeen walked to lead the inning off, and Kimberly Robinson followed with a single and Rachel Coffey was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. However, Reinhardt's Madison Luck coaxed three straight ground balls to end the inning and the Buffs only came out of the inning with one run. In the seventh, Milligan again looked to rally with two on and two out, but again Luck was able to end the threat by getting a groundout to end the game.

Game two was all Reinhardt as the Eagles scored one in the bottom of the first, one in the bottom of the third, and two in the bottom of the fourth. Milligan's best scoring opportunity came in the fifth when Madison Grindstaff led the inning off with a single and Kaylee Street reached on a hit batter. It put runners on first and second with nobody out, but Reinhardt escaped the inning on a pop out and a double play.

Milligan will be in action on the road again this week as the Buffs head to Point University on Wednesday for another AAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in West Point, Georgia.
