Robinson's two home runs lead Buffs to sweep

FERRUM, Va. (April 11, 2017) - The Milligan College softball team played its final road games of the season on Tuesday, traveling to NCAA Div. III opponent Ferrum College. Kimberly Robinson continued her stellar senior campaign, shutting down the Panthers in game one, and accumulating two home runs and five RBI's on the day, leading to 8-0 and 8-1 wins.

The game two win marked Head Coach Wes Holly's 850th career coaching win.

Milligan (17-16, 10-10 AAC) only needed five innings in game one as the run rule came into effect. In the top of the second, Robinson broke the game open. With two outs and two runners on, Robinson homered for the fifth time of the season and put the Buffs 4-0. Also getting in on the scoring, Rachel Coffey singled in both the third and fourth innings and drove in an RBI each time and helped extend Milligan's lead to 8-0. Robinson pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, striking out eight and only allowing four hits and two walks.

Game two started a little shakier than game one. In the bottom of the first, Ferrum broke its scoring drought with a lead off home run. After that, Buffalo starting pitcher Jaclyn Jenkins settled into the game and pitched four innings with no more runs and a pair of strikeouts. In relief of Jenkins, Kassi Butcher and Brianna Snyder kept the Panthers off the board for final three innings, only facing nine batters.

On the offensive side of things, the Buffs responded to Ferrum's first inning home run with a home run of their own. Coffey led things off with a triple and was sent home by Hannah Simmons, who went yard for the first time in her Buffalo career.

Milligan held on to its 2-1 lead until the fifth where the offense put the game out of reach. Going deep for the second time of the day, Robinson homered to left, her team leading sixth of the year. Later in the inning, Coffey doubled and scored Erica Roller from second, immediately followed by an RBI single from Simmons, her third RBI of the day. At the end of the fifth, the Buffs led 6-1 and seized control of the game. Milligan added two runs in the sixth before going on to win the game 8-1.

The Buffs have three non-conference opponents left on the schedule, all of whom they will play on Anglin Field. The home stand will start with Georgia Gwinnett College on Saturday, April 15. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
