MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 15, 2017)- Despite late rallies, the Milligan College softball team came up short as it dropped two games to the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies 15-1 and 12-3 on senior day.
In between games of the doubleheader, Milligan honored seniors
Ashley Arnold,
Bailey Hight,ÂÂ
Kimberly Robinson,ÂÂ
Kacie Skeen andÂÂ
Kelley Sorenson as the team's senior class.
Milligan fell to 17-18, and remained 10-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after today's non-conference matchup. Georgia Gwinnett, which ranks No. 5 in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, improved to 44-7-1 on the season.
The Buffs gave up a six-run inning in the second, and they could not overcome the deficit. Skeen sent one over the fence in the bottom of the sixth for her sixth home run of the season, but it would not be enough to start a rally, as Milligan fell to the Grizzlies 15-1 in game one.
Despite a three-run inning in the bottom of the third, the Buffs were unable to overcome the Grizzlies early lead in game two. Skeen would once again get things started with a double to drive in two runs. Junior
Rachel Coffey followed with a double to drive in Skeen. A late rally in the bottom of the fifth would come up short as the Buffs fell 12-3 in five innings.
Milligan will host Cumberland University in a doubleheader on Friday, April 21, at 1 p.m., and Tusculum College on Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. to wrap up the season.
